Read the specific call rather than a generic template

Begin at the nursing association’s or institution’s official event page. Follow its link to the submission platform and record the edition, category, word limit, required headings, eligibility and deadline. Research, quality improvement, evidence-based practice and student nominations can have different routes. This guide supplies an editorial preparation workflow, not a universal nursing-association rule.

Check that the call is still open

A search result can retain an expired call. On 9 October 2026, the Sigma 2027 research-congress abstract URL reviewed for this guide reported that its submission category had expired. The platform separately displayed a student Rising Stars nomination route. Do not assume that one available route means the general abstract call is open.

The student nomination instructions describe automatic poster acceptance without peer review. That is a route-specific example: “accepted” does not always mean the same review process. Read the actual current call before describing your abstract as peer reviewed or advising another researcher to submit.

Describe the work you actually completed

State the research or practice question, design or project approach, setting, relevant measures, findings and limitations in the order requested by the call. Distinguish completed results from a proposal or work in progress. If results are not available, use only a category that permits that project stage.

Check author order and contributions with collaborators before submission. Ask your institution which ethics review, consent, governance or dissemination approvals apply to the project. Do not claim that every nursing project follows one identical approval route. Keep participant-identifying information out of the public abstract and examples.

Make review and presentation conditions visible

Check whether review is blinded, what conflicts or funding disclosures are requested, whether AI assistance must be declared and whether an accepted presenter must register. Record oral and poster requirements separately. Follow the event’s actual rules rather than assuming a fixed poster size, slide count or mandatory heading structure.

Before the final submission, ask a colleague to check alignment between your question, methods, results and conclusion. This editorial review is not clinical validation. Avoid making treatment recommendations that the project does not support.

Keep the evidence after submission

Retain the call version, submitted abstract, institutional approval records where appropriate, confirmation and later decision. Acceptance, presentation, publication of an abstract and indexing of a full paper are separate milestones. Link the final public output when available; do not describe a submission receipt as proof of publication.
